About

Hi, I’m Lisa. I founded Mod and Mirth to create a home for curiosity, experimentation, and the joy of making. I’ve always been a creative, and over the years I’ve explored just about every medium, from ceramics and jewelry to biological illustration, calligraphy, watercolor, photography, glassblowing, and collage. Today, I am a mixed media artist working primarily in printmaking and abstract painting.

My training spans traditional art school foundations such as color theory, composition, and figure drawing, along with decades of craft and cultural exploration. I spent nearly twenty years as a ceramic artist, studied calligraphy in Japan, learned silversmithing in India, and worked early in my career as both an art therapist and an art educator. My time supporting developmentally disabled adults, and later children undergoing treatment at Georgetown’s Lombardi Cancer Center, deepened my belief in the power of creativity for healing, expression, and connection. I also hold a Master’s in Education from Harvard and completed Design Thinking training at Stanford, which continue to shape my approach to creativity, problem-solving, and teaching.

After exploring so many mediums, I found a love for a process-based approach, particularly abstract painting and printmaking, which let me work intuitively and respond to color, texture, and gesture in ways that feel both grounding and freeing. My current work reflects an ongoing exploration of the layers we build, the layers we hide, and the layers that quietly shape who we are. Each piece invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and embrace openness, imperfection, and the unexpected.

In today’s world, we all need spaces that spark creativity and connection. Mod & Mirth gives me the joy of creating with children, including my own two girls, and sharing that spark with the wider community. It is my creative home, built with collaboration in mind and designed to grow. Our hybrid studio offers classes, workshops, commissioned work, digital products, and community events, all with the goal of cultivating a vibrant, sustainable hub for artists of every age and stage.

I’m excited to make, explore, and create with you.
